Question about the Blu-Ray Bond collection...

I understand that the Roger Moore commentaries have been brought over from the Ultimate Edition DVDs. How about CR? Does it have the 2 commentaries - one by by Martin Cambell and Michael G. Wilson and the other by cast and crew? Or is it the one without the commentaries with just the "Bond Girls are Forever" and some other featurettes (what was on the original DVD) ?

Because I don't know if I need to purchase the CR Blu-Ray with the commentaries separately.

The CR Blu Ray is completely revamped with the same menu design as the Ultimate Edition DVDs and featuring all special features ever released for it. Commentaries included.

All I know is I have the 50th anniversary collection. And yet I want to buy every other edition as well. It is a sickness.

Thanks, Shark. I did buy the Bond Blu-Ray Collection (this one --> https://www.amazon.com/James-Bond-Collection-Bd-Blu-ray/dp/B0126ZK6GE) but after opening and checking CR unfortunately it doesn't have everything that was ever released for that film. It only has the one commentary by the crew (Babs, Meheux, Baird, Powell, McWilliams, and others) but not the Martin Campbell director's commentary with M.G. Wilson (which was on the 3-disc DVD). There are a few other items from that 3-disc DVD that didn't make it to the Blu-Ray. Also missing is the "Bond Girls are Forever" special which was on the original 2-disc DVD.

I mean this is still better than the original 2-disc DVD that I own (which I bought back when it first came out in 2007) but it's frustrating that they can't give us everything! I suspect the Bond 50 Blu-Ray collection (from 2012) is the same as what I purchased, meaning it doesn't have everything from the CR 3-disc DVD either.

Ah. The collection I have is the Bond 50 one. "Bond Girls are Forever" is on a bonus disc and not included in the CR disc itself.

Apologies on the commentaries. I thought it included both.

I guess at some point I may have to seek out the 3-disc set. I'm a commentary completist and Marty Campbell really knows his stuff when it comes to Bond. In the meantime I'll be very excited to hear the crew commentary that's included. I heard the very beginning of it yesterday where Phil Meheux talks about the B&W opening and how it was inspired by the classic spy thrillers like THE THIRD MAN and THE SPY WHO CAME IN FROM THE COLD. And how the widescreen that is used in that scene between Bond and Dryden was inspired by the widescreen in THE IPCRESS FILE.

It's still unforgivable that we don't have a commentary for QOS and SP though. Heck, I even have Irvin Kershner's commentary for NSNA, where he mostly did a play-by-play (e.g. here Bond gets suspicious, and here he spots the lady and knows that she's up to no good, and here he jumps off the cliff on his horse). He does mention that he regrets how flat the cinematography looks (especially in the cave scenes) but mostly he's just explaining what's on the screen. Still, at least there WAS a commentary. A Bond film MUST have a commentary! Even if it involves bottled water or Bond's brother. Besides, Mendes is fascinating to listen to.

Forster explaining what's on screen would be awesome. Will be.

Verily I say unto thee...do you really think he has any idea because no one else has?

reply

Verily I say unto thee..the reason why there is no commentary track for QoS is far from unforgivable and the reason why there is not is obvious. Anyone who had seen this essay in ineptitude in the cinema would prefer to traverse the fiery waters of Hades rather than put themselves through the agony of watching it a second time so why provide a commentary track? Even if there had been one would anyone wish to hear the makers apologising for the best part of 100 minutes? I think not.
