Spectre was good besides these two things:

The 'brother' thing. It was stupid, but they wanted a personal connection between bond and his arch enemy. i just think they tried too hard to connect him with the previous movies.

The end: shooting down the helicopter. lazy writing. they could have thought of something better.

other than that, it's an average to above average bond movie. it felt more like the older ones with the formula and added humor, but didn't go overboard making it cheesy.

I think most of the hate for it is unwarranted.

Heard those two complaints before, obviously, but I don't have a problem with them.

To me it's a smooth, enjoyable ride through the entire film. Craig continues to assemble a solid body of work.

I'm motivated by my Duty.

It's not one of the best Bond movies of all time, but it isn't 'bad' by any account. I don't get why it is disliked so much to be honest.

reply

I didn't like the attempt to connect the movies and the backstory thing. Otherwise a perfectly good Bond film that does nothing to warrant Haterade.

reply

It's a solid albeit a bit uninspired Bond flick.

lazy writingFor lazy writing, nothing can compare with the torture scene.
In Hollywood history, how many times have writers contrived some (even slightly) plausible way that someone avoids the cruel fate of some villain's nasty design (going back to tying someone to a railroad track)?
Who would even try to count the examples? And the writers always managed to figure out something.
And Bond escaped that cruel fate because....the machine doesn't do what Blofeld threatened it would do?
That's it? That's what they come up with? Should Blofeld have returned his machine to the manufacturer with a nasty note?
"Lazy writing" doesn't even begin to describe a lapse of this magnitude.
(P.S. For other reasons, I still like the movie.)

I hate that too. Blofeld goes on this huge tangent about how Bond will "forget everything he knows" and stuff like that and he does it and....Bond is fine? Without any sort of even a brief effect from anything he just went through? What a waste of time that scene was. I still contend that it should have been a dinner scene like Dr. No. As cliche as it is, it would have worked better and allowed for the exact same exposition without the nonsense.

reply

Absolutely agree, isapop. How lazy is that? It's like they're not even trying. Even the campiest of the old Bond films would have utilized some situation (no matter how contrived) to let Bond survive. But nope, not here. Here Bond is superman! Or the drill is faulty! They could drill into his eye socket and he'd walk away with 20/20 vision. Sorry, I'm not buying crap like that. You're gonna have to try a little harder. This won't fly.

Connery, Moore, and Brosnan! Accept NO substitutes!

reply

Or he's lying from the start to maximize the killing of Bond to terrorize Madeleine.

I'm afraid your friend Blofeld...isn't my friend Blofeld.
