What did you think of Max von Sydow as Blofeld?
He had effortless screen presence, I felt. Not particularly threatening in the role, but the story didn't encourage him to be. I would've liked to have seen him as the main villain in another film (can it still happen?).
He was kind of just there. Window dressing if you will. He didn't really need to be in the movie, and Since McClory was just making one Bond movie only, he should have had Bond go after Blofeld as well as Largo. If it's your only Bond movie, might as well have a climatic showdown with Blofeld.

But that's how every Bond villain is in all the movies. They are in complete control in the beginning and die at the hands of Bond in the end. So what's the difference, compared to all the rest?
You're right, my argument was incorrect. To clarify, a Bond villain is usually the villain, not the villain behind the villain. That's the difference, I think.
