Hacksaw Ridge is indeed excellent. I tend to temper expectations when it comes to such obvious oscar bait.

That film is worthy of the props it is getting though.

reply

And in a perfect world, a world where the Oscars don't play politics, the film would win Best Picture. Instead we get something I've never heard of called LA LA LAND. But that's Hollyweird for ya - la la land. They've totally lost the plot.

reply

La La Land was great as well. I don't know your taste towards musicals so I don't know whether to recommend it or not.

reply

I'm sorry the towering and majestic FORCE AWAKENS didn't do it for you.

But HACKSAW RIDGE is definitely excellent.

reply

Tootsie gets a one out of ten? Harsh. I watched it recently and didn't care too much for it, but it gave me the impression that rather than being bad, it just wasn't for me. At least it had a good cast and its subject matter was interesting and well integrated into the plot.

reply

Oh I hated TOOTSIE. Not only was the film dull as dishwater but Hoffman as Tootsie totally creeped me out. Sorry, that tranny look was just gross! And to think there are people out there who actually find the film funny? Wow, just wow! I didn't even crack a smile once throughout the whole sorry snoozefest. You wanna see a funny (make that hilarious) film about a guy dressing up as a woman? Try MRS. DOUBTFIRE! Now there's a comedy!! And at least the British nanny played by Robin Williams was endearing and not some creepy feminist in drag. Shudder!

Oh I forgot another film.

O, BROTHER, WHERE ART THOU? (2000) - 5/10 -- the cinematography by Roger Deakins is beautiful and Clooney has his moments as the verbose grifter but overall the film is pretty pointless; not the Coens best work

I thought you watched THE NIGHT MANAGER.

I'm motivated by my Duty.

reply

Nope, haven't seen THE NIGHT MANAGER.
