Are you going to pull those pistols or whistle "Dixie"?

I would definitely give the first place to

"El angel exterminador" by Luis Buñuel (middle 1960s)

Pan's Labyrinth is from Spain.

Anywho, I really liked Amores Perros.

All walls are great if the roof doesn't fall.

You guys definitely need to watch more of our films. I liked jorgeqb's and insomniac rod's responses the best. Other than that, it looks like Buñuel, Jordowsky, Iñarritu, Cuaron and Del Toro were the only ones to make movies in the history of Mexico for 100 years...typical (Even Robert Rodriguez is listed, weirdly enough)

This is my current Top 20 (see more info below)
1. Los Tres Huastecos (Ismael Rodríguez, 1948)
2. Los Tres Garcia (Rodríguez, 1947)
3. Vuelven Los Garcia (Rodríguez, 1947)
4. Animas Trujano (Rodríguez, 1962)
5. Mecánica Nacional (Luis Alcoriza, 1971)
6. Emiliano Zapata (Cazals, 1970)
7. Escuela Para Vagabundos (Gonzalez, 1952)
8. Mi Querido Tom Mix (Carlos Garcia Agraz, 1991)
9. Rudo y Cursi (Carlos Cuaron, 2008)
10. Pedro Páramo (Velo, 1967)
11. Somos del Otro Laredo (Rodríguez, 1977)
12. El Castillo de los Monstruos (Julian Soler, 1958)
13. El Cri Cri (Davison, 1963)
14. Todo Por Nada (Mariscal, 1969)
15. La Gota de Sangre (Urueta, 1950)
16. Las Delicias del Poder (Lipkies, 1996)
17. Los Albañiles (Fons, 1976)
18. El Miedo No Anda En Burro (Cortes, 1976)
19. Peregrina (Hernández, 1974)
20. El Patrullero 777 (Delgado, 1978)
21. El Profe (Delgado, 1971)

There are more ("El Lugar Sin Limites", "El Vampiro", "Mas Negro Que La Noche", comedies.), and a lot more that I have not seen in years and others that I still need to watch for the first time (especially "Los Hermanos del Hierro", "Viento Negro", "Ustedes Los Ricos", "Aquellos Años" (Cazals), "El Cuartelazo", etc, etc, etc.)

List will change after watching more of these films.

It was a co-production between Mexico and Spain, the director/screenwriter along with half the producers were Mexican. Mexico was the one who submitted the film for Oscar consideration not Spain.
