Film version of Wicked

Do you think Wicked will ever get a film version, yes or no and why or why not?

reply

Of course! It might still be a few years - but IMDB already has it listed as in pre-production.

It might still happen but I have my doubts that it will happen, I mean what have they been waiting for, even Jersey Boys that didn't debut on Broadway until a couple of years after Wicked did got a film version in much quicker time.

And Here's a confirmation from Variety:

That's interesting, thanks. Seems quite a long way of, though. But I'm sure it will be worth waiting for.

I just hope they use real singers...not movie stars.

I'm sorry but Anna Kendrick does NOT have a great voice (but I can totally see them casting her as Elphaba because she's so well known.

The movie Les Mis suffered terribly because they used stars instead of musical theater pros. I loathe Hugh Jackman's voice (and I know he did Oklahoma and The Boy from Oz but he still sounds like Ethel Merman...he has such a wobbly vibrato). Helena Bonham Carter? Amanda "Minnie Mouse" Seyfried? Eddie Redmayne was awful as well (strangely enough I LIKED Russell Crowe as Javier).

Please oh please get real singers for the movie version of Wicked!

Everyone deserves the chance to fly!

I love her voice. She's wonderful in The Last Five Years, and I like her singing in Into the Woods, also.
