Why do women not like the horror genre
Is it because they are squeamish and don't have the emotional/mental ability ?

shareOf all the people I know who like horror movies, all five are female.
I'm wondering if you have been misled by IMDb. Ratings on IMDb for all films are heavily skewed towards male preference. For some reason, girls in general do not rate every movie they see. Some do, but the vast majority do not. This might lead one to assume that girls don't like horror, when in reality they just have a different connection to movies.
Um - what you say?
shareHey I'm a woman and I love the horror genre. It's refreshing and my favorite thing to do. In fact, I'm going to watch a horror movie before I go to bed.
shareWho the H3LL says that??? SO DAMN WRONG!!! O_o
shareI am a woman and I prefer horror and action movies to comedy or romance any day
shareHorror chicks rule, don't you know that?! Some women ONLY prefer horror!
shareDude, we shed gallons of blood every month, go under the knife for purely cosmetic reasons at least five times as many as men and get to pop out actual human beings after going through nine months of certified body horror.
There is no such thing as "squeamish" women, just people who don't enjoy the genre for varied personal reasons, regardless of their gender. Do you really think shows such as Hannibal and Supernatural have such predominantly female audiences because their leads are pretty? Have you took a look at what young girls read are these days? From where did you though the dystopian boom originated from?
Speaking for personal experience, I've been an horror buff since before I was old enough to read the subtitles. My father owned a huge video store and I devoured slashers that definitely weren't intended for my age with glee. I have found that, in general, my female friends are more inclined to the supernatural genre than the males I know - but there has to be some kind of plot attached to it, gore alone wouldn't do it for them.
