What are Sidney Poitiers best films?

Not seen tremendously much even though I always thought he was good, watched The Defiant Ones (1958) a couple weeks ago that was really good

Speaking of defiant ones we've almost got 10.000 people protesting the shutdown

I enjoyed "In the Heat of the Night", "To Sir With Love" and the recent TV airing of "The Defiant Ones", but I didn't much care for his film "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner".

The man never made a bad picture or turned in a less than excellent performance.

"No Way Out", 1950 is worth a watch. He plays an MD challenged by a racist criminal portrayed by Richard Widmark.

"Lilies of the Field", "Guess Who.." and "In the Heat..." being three of my favorite movies I have to watch from time to time.

My most favorites have been listed here. I do have another one that I have always enjoyed.
Shoot to Kill, 1988.
It's funny, action packed and suspense filled. I hope you check it out. Really good!

A film worth mentioning is The Bedford Incident with Richard Widmark and Martin Balsam.
The film itself is a modest but taut maritime thriller, but one interesting angle is there is no mention of Mr. Poitier's character as being a black man. He's a reporter, the only civilian on a military ship, but none of the tension is due to his color, and it may have been a cinematic first for a starring black player. And it's a dandy little film in it's own right.

I liked "In the Heat of the Night", "To Sir With Love", and "The Defiant Ones" (which I also watched a couple of weeks ago).

I recently saw a 50th-year anniversary re-release of "In the Heat of the Night" at a local movie theatre, and, although I'd seen it when it first came out, I didn't remember much of it. It's still a good film, and, given what's been going on these days in real life, this movie's still very relevant, I think.

I also watched part of "To Sir With Love" on TV recently. I also saw that one when it first came out, also.

The Defiant Ones was my favorite.
